Inverted Bucket Steam Trap
Robust mechanical trap for drip, tracer and process duty, with reliable air handling and waterhammer tolerance.
Product overview
A mechanical trap in which an inverted bucket opens and closes the discharge valve according to whether it is buoyed by steam or sunk by condensate.
The problem it solves
A trap that passes live steam wastes fuel continuously and silently; a trap that fails closed floods the line. Both faults are invisible until the fuel bill or a hammer event exposes them.
Working principle
Condensate entering the body sinks the bucket, opening the valve. Arriving steam buoys the bucket, closing it. A vent hole in the bucket top bleeds air and non-condensables.
Applications
- Steam main drip legs
- Steam tracing lines
- Process equipment with steady condensate loads
Advantages
- Tolerant of waterhammer and dirty condensate
- Fails open rather than blowing live steam continuously
- Handles air through the bucket vent
