A diffuser and absorptive silencer assembly fitted to blowdown, start-up and safety vent discharges.
The problem it solves
An unsilenced steam vent can exceed 120 dB at the discharge. That is a hearing hazard, a neighbour complaint and, increasingly, a compliance failure.
Working principle
The discharge is first broken into many small jets by a diffuser, shifting the noise to higher frequencies, then passed through an absorptive section that attenuates them.
